(PRESS RELEASE) FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — The 35th Annual VCA Walk for the Animals was a tremendous success, with Veterinary Formula proudly serving as the event’s official Dog Water Tent sponsor. Held on Saturday, February 1st, the walk brought together animal lovers and their pets in support of the Humane Society of Broward County. The walk raised vital funds to support a range of programs for homeless pets, including adoptions, fostering, vaccinations, medical care, and more.

Thanks to Veterinary Formula’s sponsorship and generous donations collected during the event, the brand was able to raise $3,372 to support the Humane Society’s life-saving programs. The Walk for the Animals had an ambitious fundraising goal of $518,000, and Veterinary Formula is honored to have contributed to this meaningful cause.

In addition to its sponsorship, Veterinary Formula contributed products to be included in 2,000 swag bags, ensuring pet parents received trusted pet care essentials. The event provided a great opportunity to engage with hundreds of pet parents and their furry companions. One of the day’s highlights was the enthusiastic response to Dental Fresh, a must-have solution for tackling bad breath—a common concern among attendees.

Veterinary Formula’s participation in the Walk for the Animals was about more than just brand exposure—it was about making a real impact. By showing up, giving back, and connecting with pet parents, the brand reinforced its commitment to animal wellness and community engagement.

“Events like this allow us to do more than just promote our products—they give us the opportunity to support pet parents and the shelters that work tirelessly to help animals in need,” said Brent Stern, Chief Commercial Officer at SynergyLabs, parent company of Veterinary Formula. “We’re grateful to have been part of such an incredible day and to contribute to a local cause that aligns with our mission.”

Feb. 2-8

MARKETING Pitch a “Top 10 Gifts for Your Furry Valentine” story to local TV stations. For best results, find on social media the reporters who most often do these types of live remotes, then scroll back for a mention of their pets. Put together a gift bag for each with the list and one of the items, with a card addressed to the reporter and their pet. That will get their attention! As will a mention of your Kissing Booth photo set if you have one.

BUYING Have you registered for Global Pet Expo yet? Booked your travel? Get on it! The show happens March 26-28 in Orlando, FL.

Feb. 9-15

FINANCES Focus on your finances in February, advises Victor Santucci of Garden State Pet Center in Audubon, NJ: “Review your financial statements from the previous year (income, expenses and profit margins), identify any areas where you can reduce costs, and get your tax documents ready.”

OPERATIONS If you offer boarding, send reservation and policy reminders to those booked for Spring Break weeks with the goal of streamlining check-in. Still have spots available? Blast those to your client base to ensure a full facility during this highly profitable season.

Feb. 16-22

EVENTS Jeffrey Jensen of Four Muddy Paws in St. Louis, MO, points out that Easter will be much later this year, on April 20 — compared to March 31 in 2024. “You’ll want to add activities and events in March to offset last year’s pre-Easter sales” in March. Speaking of the holiday, Kaye Busse-Kleber of Bark On Mulford in Rockford, IL, reminds you to book your Easter Bunny and photographer early so you’ll be all set for in-store sessions, like the one shown above at the former Natural Pawz in Houston, TX, starring Spot the PETS+ Boston Terrier.

Feb. 23-Mar. 1

INVENTORY Combine two important tasks, like Dana Julian of Furbaby Boutique in Holly, MI: “I do a full inventory and deep clean in February. While we spot-check inventory counts throughout the year, I like doing one complete count, put hands on every item and clean while we go. It also gives us a chance to look for damage, rodents and bugs.”

SECURITY While we’re on the topic of spring cleaning, plan yours around a community shredding event. Government agencies offer free document shredding several times a year. Take advantage to reduce your identity theft risk.

Mar. 2-8

EDUCATION If you offer such services, be sure to log on for Pet Sitters International’s 2025 FOCUS One-Day Online Summit for Pet Sitters & Dog Walkers. It’s an affordable, convenient opportunity to learn from industry experts and network with fellow pet-care professionals. Register at petsit.com.

MANAGEMENT Employee Appreciation Day falls on March 7 this year. Go above and beyond a shout-out on social media and plan something extra-special. What exactly? Ask your team! They’ll appreciate having a say in how you thank them.

Mar. 9-15

STAFF Do you have guidelines for handling complaints? If not, get busy. As much as possible, empower your team to make decisions without you based on previously discussed scenarios.

Mar. 16-22

PRODUCTIVITY Take inventory of your apps and evaluate each for its usefulness, working on the assumption that if something can’t justify itself, it’s out. Yep, that means some may have to go.

Mar. 23-29

BUYING We’ll see you at Global Pet Expo! Not attending? Follow the lead of Katherine Ostiguy of Crossbones in Providence, RI. “I have a date conflict nearly every year with Global, so I’ve never been able to attend, but I follow our favorite brands, distributors and PETS+ so I can still be ‘in the know.’” Per usual, the PETS+ team will be reporting live from the show floor, doing as many booth interviews as physically possible. ]]>
(PRESS RELEASE) BANGKOK, TH — The Italy Pavilion powered by Zoomark made a very successful debut at Pet Fair South East Asia, the region’s leading pet industry event, held in Bangkok (Thailand) from 30th October to 1st November.

In Bangkok for the first time, the Italy Pavilion organized by Zoomark brought together eight Italian companies – Adragna Petfood, Bamapet, Iv San Bernard, Laviosa, Manitoba, Morando and Valpet – interested in exploring new business opportunities in the emerging markets of Southeast Asia.

The Italy Pavilion proved a star attraction for Asian and international visitors: more than 10,000 professionals, including retailers, buyers and distributors from 81 different countries, visited the show and the Italy Pavilion, forging new, advantageous partnerships, as the companies involved reported: “It was definitely a positive experience for us, and has given our company several interesting opportunities for developing export and expanding commercially in the Asia-Pacific area,” said Simone Borgia, Asia-Pacific Export Manager for Adragna Petfood Srl. “Above all, taking part in the Italy Pavilion enabled us to showcase our brand’s values and products, which are proudly 100% Made in Italy. Thanks to Zoomark’s ongoing commitment to promoting and supporting Italian excellence in the pet industry, we have consolidated our company’s image on an international level,” Borgia concluded, adding that “the support and assistance provided by the Zoomark team during the show was also a key factor. “

“Every new show is a gamble, but we knew that coming here as part of Zoomark’s Italian delegation would be a safe bet,” commented Rossella Baiocchi, Marketing Manager of Bama S.p.A. “We made friends with the other exhibitors and became the “Made in Italy family”. For us, Pet Fair South East Asia was a very rewarding experience: the attendees lived up to our expectations in terms of both quality and quantity, and we came home with a lot of very interesting contacts. We can only thank all the Zoomark staff for the passion and determination they put into their work every day, promoting the Italian pet industry all over the world.”

Patrick Rossi, Supply Chain Manager for Manitoba S.r.l., added: “Being part of a Zoomark delegation is a sure-fire guarantee, first and foremost because Zoomark selects strategic events in high potential markets, but also because the organization is flawless, and exhibitors are offered complete ‘turnkey’ solutions that are particularly advantageous. In view of the excellent results both during the show and post-event, we will definitely be taking part in the Italy Pavilion in the future”.

Once again, Zoomark has confirmed its role as a key partner for companies wishing to expand their presence in new markets.

About Zoomark

Zoomark is the B2B pet food and pet care trade show scheduled for May 5th-7th 2025 at BolognaFiere. Returning for the 21st time, it provides a global meeting point for the industry and distributors in the pet sector, and is the ideal place to forge new relationships, stay up to date and share ideas with a global audience seeking new partners and business opportunities.

Treat Your Team to Lunch, Prep for Icy Roads and More To-Do’s for December and January https://petsplusmag.com/treat-your-team-to-lunch-prep-for-icy-roads-and-more-to-dos-for-december-and-january/ https://petsplusmag.com/treat-your-team-to-lunch-prep-for-icy-roads-and-more-to-dos-for-december-and-january/#comments Fri, 01 Nov 2024 02:25:32 +0000 https://petsplusmag.com/?p=67743 Add these smart management tasks to your to-do list.

The post Treat Your Team to Lunch, Prep for Icy Roads and More To-Do’s for December and January appeared first on PETSPLUSMAG.COM.

]]>
Dec. 1-7

OPERATIONS If you haven’t had to already, refresh your procedures for this season’s freezing weather. Molly Lewis of Dog River Pet Supplies in Hood River, OR, says, “We brace ourselves for winter. January weather is awful. Getting to the store and keeping it open is our biggest task.” In December, “We check in with employees and talk about who can safely get to the store when roads are icy.”

INVENTORY Looking for a way to move product nearing its sell-by date? “I use products going out soon to make holiday packages, like stuffed stockings,” Taylor England of EarthWise Pet Lake Nona in Orlando, FL, shares. Jennifer Hall of All Things Pawssible in Charlottesville, VA, also bundles these items during the holidays. “It’s a great way to clear out inventory!”

Dec. 8-14

PRICING Service price increases for the following year are best introduced well before January, and reminders should go out in December. This helps ensure that customers budget accordingly for the next month and next year.

Dec. 15-21

MANAGEMENT Keep your team fueled and festive! One way: Follow the lead of Krista Schmidt of St PetersBARK! in St. Petersburg, FL, who advises, “Provide lunch the entire week before Christmas. And rotate team members on the register.”

Dec. 22-28

INVENTORY Theresa Sexton of For Healthy Pets in Wetumpka, AL, has the right idea when it comes to closing out the year: “We will have our annual ‘We Don’t Want to Count It Sale’ at the end of December.” For products that don’t sell or you’re discontinuing, do like Morgan Monty of The Cheshire Horse in Swanzey, NH, “We do several large donations, as well, to help clean out the slower-moving or closer-to-date inventory. We have several organizations near us that love getting those items. This makes year-end inventory simpler and provides a fresh start to the new year!”

Dec. 29-Jan. 4

FINANCES Take stock of your subscriptions as the new year begins. Certain credit card companies and budgeting tools help you find recurring charges and cancel those you no longer need.

STRATEGY If you’ve typically set long-term business goals quarterly or monthly, try something different this year: six-week project goals. You might find that having more or less time to achieve these goals makes them feel more attainable and keeps you on track.

Jan. 5-11

SOCIAL MEDIA Influencers can be a helpful bunch. While most target consumers with their content, they also can alert you to new products, ones your customers might come in asking about. Even if a product doesn’t meet your high standards, it gives you an opportunity to explain why and offer an alternative that does. “I follow lots of Instagram and TikTok trends and order some products promoted there,” Natalya Schilling of Pets on Brady in Milwaukee, WI, says.

Jan. 12-18

OPERATIONS Do you play music for customers on hold? Switch to a customized message just for your customers, one that promotes your current specials and upcoming events. Throw in a bark or meow from your store pet to make it even more fun.

STORE DESIGN Review your business’s decompression zone, those first few feet inside the front door. Customers here are prone to distractions, which is why you should try to keep the area simple and uncluttered. In addition, greeting customers makes them more aware of their surroundings and helps them focus.

Jan. 19-25

CRM Offer mini bonuses tied to enrolling customers in your loyalty program. After the holidays, team members will appreciate the opportunity to earn $1 or $2 for every sign-up that puts a customer’s name, email address and pet’s birthday or gotcha day into your system.

Photo courtesy of Treats on a Leash.

Jan. 26-Feb. 1

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE How do you wish customer pets a happy birthday? Follow the lead of Treats on a Leash in Ames, IA, which combines a happy birthday message with a gift and incentive to shop at the store. While emails don’t require a stamp, who doesn’t love the more personal touch of getting a hand-written card, like the one above, in the mail.

When is a store more than a store? When it becomes a gathering space for people of like minds and interests and a vibrant expression of your core values. This year at the International Retail Design Conference, Oct. 9-10, we’ve gathered a powerful team of thought leaders to explore how to reimagine your space through purpose-driven design.

Along with a brand ambassador from The Good Pour, panelists Amy Jordan, VP of Business Development, Facilities, Goodwill of Southern Piedmont and Olivia Biagi, Vice President of Merchandising at University Co-Op, The University of Texas at Austin, will join moderators Eric Daniel, Creative Director, Little Diversified Architectural Consulting Inc. and Daniel Montaño, Partner & Retail Design Principal, Little Diversified Architectural Consulting Inc., for this action-packed discussion of success stories and how-tos.

But the beauty of purpose-driven design is that you can begin implementing these ideas at a very basic level right now. Here are three simple ways to get started:

  1. Create a sustainable materials showcase
If sustainability is a core value of your business, consider creating a dedicated section in your store that highlights sustainable materials and products – along with signage that explains how they contribute to a more sustainable future. This reinforces your brand’s commitment to sustainability and educates your customers on the importance of making eco-friendly choices.
  2. Host workshops and events
Does your store focus on artisanal goods? Consider hosting workshops where local artisans teach customers how to create handmade products. Are you targeted to the youth market? Create events led by local teen leaders. These experiences foster a sense of community and position your store as a place where people can connect over shared interests.
  3. Create interactive storytelling spaces
What’s the story you want to tell with your brand? Set up an interactive display that shares that story through touchscreens, videos, or “hands-on” experiences. If your store features hand-crafted items from other countries, for example, you can show how those products made their way to your shelves – or show how local customers are using these products in their own homes.

Engaging your community through purpose-driven design provides an opportunity to get the word out about your store and share the values that drive you. To learn even more techniques and winning strategies, plan on joining us at IRDC 2024!

Given Google’s global commitment to sustainability, it’s no surprise that sustainability themes figured prominently in their recently opened store on Boston’s Newberry Street – but their success didn’t come without challenges.

Attendees at this year’s International Retail Design Conference (IRDC), Oct. 9-10 will get the inside scoop on how to bridge the gap between sustainability and store development strategy in an interactive panel moderated by Brent Felten, Retail Sector Client Relationship Director, Henderson Engineers, which features Jackie Farrar, Head of Retail Design and Development, Google Stores; Mark Brungo, Global Account Director, Gensler; and Brian Alessi, Sustainability Director, Henderson Engineers.

Ready for an eco-friendly strategy in your store? These four areas offer the biggest returns on your sustainability efforts.

  1. Redesign from the ground up: If you’re building (or rebuilding) your space, explore using sustainable materials such as reclaimed wood, recycled metal and low-VOC paints for construction and interior design. Utilize natural lighting over artificial light, update your HVAC system for energy savings and, if you’re in a location that gets a lot of rain, explore ways to collect and use rainwater for non-potable uses.
  2. Save energy: From converting to LED lighting and opting for energy-efficient appliances to installing motion-activated lighting, you can start making meaningful changes without a huge investment. Looking for a bigger impact? Research the use of solar panels to generate renewable energy and decrease your store’s reliance on grid electricity.
  3. Reduce waste: Offer your customers and staff recycling and composting stations to help them consider where they’re tossing that trash. In addition, strategize ways to minimize your packaging, such as using reusable bags and digital receipts.
  4. Adopt a circular product strategy: Want to start the conversation on conservation? From encouraging the use of local, organic and eco-friendly products to educating your customers about products with a low environmental impact to finding ways to refill and re-use your products, you can quickly amp up your eco-friendly vibe.

Most of all, kudos for going green. For even more ways incorporate your sustainability strategy successfully, don’t miss our high-energy interactive panel with Google at IRDC 2024!

Foot Locker is known for having numerous styles of footwear to excite and entice a variety of customers. To welcome shoppers to your brand, take the time to hire and reward friendly staff members – a smile can go a long way toward eliminating any fears or discomfort your customers may have. Also, lean into accessibility. Wide aisles, easy-to-read signage, clear and understandable imagery and even demonstrations of your product can help draw customers into the conversation.

Community Involvement: Build a Family
People love being part of a community. Foot Locker may have its dedicated sneakerheads, but any in-store special opportunities can draw customers to your brand family. Whether through events, collaborations with local artists on special projects in line with your brand ethos or leveraging social media, find ways to connect – meaningfully – with your community.

In-Store Experiences: Level Up the Passion!
When customers step into your store, they should feel like they’re escaping into a world of creativity that immerses them in a brand experience. Foot Locker does this with interactive displays, unique sneaker art and easily accessible try-on areas – but that’s only the beginning. Consider using interactive displays and try-before-you-buy zones to give customers a hands-on experience, or pop-up art to convey the vibe of your brand.

(PRESS RELEASE) CHICAGO — Matrix Partners announced that its innovative package designs created for Honest to Goodness Plant Snacks have been honored with Graphic Design USA’s American Package Design Award.

GDUSA’s annual competition celebrates the elevated role of packaging in advancing a brand’s promise, telling a story, amplifying an experience and making a difference. This year’s 61st anniversary American Package Design Awards is one of the largest. With over 3,000 entries in the 2024 showcase, only 10% of leading design firms, agencies, departments and institutions across the country have been selected as winners.

“Being recognized by GDUSA for our work with Honest to Goodness is a huge honor,” said Natalie Murawski, associate creative director at Matrix Partners. “Our goal was to create packaging that conveys the essence of the brand while making their products memorable and more appealing to consumers. This award exemplifies the hard work and creativity of our entire team.”

Honest to Goodness is dedicated to creating products that are not only good for pets, but good for pet parents’ peace of mind. The brand’s first line, Plant Snacks, harnesses the natural power of wholesome fruits and vegetables customers can actually see in each treat, plus probiotics and Marine Microalgae Oil, to deliver the healthy support pets need to thrive.

Matrix’s creative team developed playful designs with a natural, fresh and honest look. Light yet vibrant pops of color offer consumers a sense of joy and positivity, while creating a look that’s the perfect balance between youthful and trustworthy.

As the premier full-service agency specializing in the pet products industry, Matrix Partners offers marketers a unique competitive edge. The company’s extensive industry expertise enables them to cultivate brands that stand out on store shelves. In addition to winning numerous awards from GDUSA, their work has won top honors from the Hermes Create Awards, Effie Awards, dotCOMM Awards and AVA Digital Awards.
