Nancy Guinn founded Dog Krazy in Fredericksburg, VA, in 2006. Judges named it one of the PETS+ 2022 America’s Coolest pet businesses.

Husband and business partner Chris Guinn has helped Nancy grow the Virginia store to six locations, with grooming, in-house bakery, and day care and boarding at various stores.

One of the Fredericksburg stores features colorful and fun window decals starring the Guinn family pets, present and past.

The late Piglet gets a prime spot as she was the inspiration for Dog Krazy.

A TV screen decal doubles as a window for cats in boarding.

The colorful decals continue inside, adding a touch of humor to the grooming area.

And to the day care and boarding areas.

The late Nova watches over the door leading to day care and boarding.

Nancy named her in-store bakeries Lola’s Barkery after her mom and Piglet. Lola was Piglet’s nickname, and it means “grandma” in Tagalog, a nod to Nancy’s Filipino heritage.

Pork Wonton adorns the self-wash stations at the stores.

Top toy brands at Dog Krazy include Fluff & Tuff and Kong.

Colors and branding carry through to all six locations, including the downtown Fredericksburg store.

Unique touches such as this tile floor in Richmond are found in each of the locations.

A mural on one of the Richmond stores features Piglet.

Dog Krazy stores carry a selection of healthy foods, treats and chews, only products the Guinns would give to their own dogs. Nancy has more than 800 hours of pet nutrition education.

Three of the stores have the in-house bakery. Nancy designs all of the cookies and cakes, and bakes for all six stores with help from her team.

The special pupcakes and cookies she creates for Harry Potter Day sell out.

As do her Star Wars treats for May 4.

The Munchables treat packs also are a hit!

The Guinn family pets star in all marketing materials for the business, from signage to social media content for 26,000+ followers across Facebook and Instagram. From left are Sushi, Pork Wonton, Tala and Stirfry Fatguy.

Pork Wonton, Tala and Stirfry Fatguy appear on bounce-back coupons.

Once a quarter, the first 200 customers who place an online order of $50 or more receive a free Krazy Krate Sample Box. It comes packed with 12 or more full-size product samples.  The store now also offers regular Krazy Krates, monthly subscription boxes that cost $50 but have $100 worth of products, many of which Nancy and Chris want to move out of inventory.

Quarters collected from Dog Krazy Gumball Machines go into The Piggy Bank Fund, also inspired by Piglet, as do proceeds from Piggy Bank Cookies made in the bakeries. Each month, employees choose a receiving charity.

Deliveries are made in two vans wrapped with designs featuring Piglet.

The Guinns plan to open additional stores in 2023 and begin offering Nancy’s bakery items wholesale. Read more about the business in the America’s Coolest feature in our July-August issue.
