It used to be, Halloween merchandise came in two colors: black and orange. But these days, pink is becoming more prevalent, report a variety of publications, including USA Today.

Among the retailers where this is trend is on display: HomeGoods, Target, Walmart, HomeGoods, T.J. Maxx and Michaels. (Not mentioned in this particular article are such pop-up retailers as Spirit Halloween, Halloween City and Halloween Express, which typically take over vacant store slots for the season, but the pink trend is likely to be on display at such stores, as well.)

“While the traditional colors are always a fan favorite, there are plenty of people who also like the pastel (pink, purple, etc.) colors as well,” Instagram poster @InTheWorkplace told the national newspaper. “For me, personally, I love the mix of both. The pastel colors give more of a whimsical vibe, which I think some people have been loving.” Also boosting the trend: the popularity of last summer’s Pink-centric “Barbie” movie.

Whatever the cause for the trend, it has the potential to have cash registers ringing more often and over a longer season. Though the National Retail Federation’s widely watched spending forecast for Halloween 2024 isn’t out yet, its stats for recent years show the holiday continues to grow, hitting a record $12.12 billion last year, USA Today notes.
