(PRESS RELEASE) ST. LOUIS — As it intensifies its commitment to recycling and other sustainable business practices, Cloud Star has become a proud member of the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC). Joining forces with like-minded “green” industry members will help the treat manufacturer further its mission of creating a more sustainable future for people and pets, said Caitlin Palmieri, Brand Manager, Whitebridge Pet Brands, LLC, parent of Cloud Star.

“Wanting to protect the planet is a natural extension of our love of pets, and Cloud Star is committed to following sustainable business practices that minimize our impact on the environment,” Palmieri said. “Being a member of the PSC will help us achieve this goal through the exchange of ideas with others who share our mission, as well as by being part of a collective voice within the industry and on the national level.”

Cloud Star’s membership in the PSC comes as the company is actively implementing a sweeping program of new recyclable packaging for many of its brands, which include Wag More Bark Less, Tricky Trainers, Dynamo Dog, Dogswell, Buddy Biscuits, Pet Botanics and Grizzly Pet Products.

All bags of Wag More Bark Less Slider and Meatball treats, Tricky Trainers Soft & Chewy treats, and Buddy Biscuits and Buddy Training Bites are now recyclable at stores that accept plastic bags, as are 100% of Pet Botanics and Dynamo Dog treat bags. Cardboard boxes of Wag More Bark Less Crunchy Biscuits and Buddy Biscuits, which are made with 100% recycled fiber, can be broken down and placed in home recycle bins. Additionally, 99% of Buddy Shampoo and Conditioner bottles can be recycled in home bins.

“We are working on solutions for our treat bags and other packaging that is not currently recyclable,” said Palmieri. “Many of our treat bags that are not recycle-ready are made with 30% PCR material, and we are looking at additional ways to use recycled material and reduce our environmental impact.” For example, the company has achieved 10% cardboard reduction through Supply Chain Optimization, she reported.

Cloud Star is also committed to educating consumers about how to recycle its packaging. The company has partnered with How2Recycle, a national organization that puts standardized labels on recyclable packaging that communicate to consumers the best way to dispose of the package. In addition to How2Recycle’s logo and recycling instructions, each of Cloud Star’s recyclable bags and cartons displays a QR code that directs the consumer to the specific brand page, where they can learn more about that brand’s sustainability initiatives.

Sourcing is another area where Cloud Star’s sustainability efforts have had a positive impact on the environment. The company’s Grizzly Pet Products brand, which focuses on supplying pets with Omega fatty acid supplements from fish oil, uses 100% wild caught – and never farmed– fish. This is because catching wild is a more environmentally sustainable practice than farming, which releases waste and chemicals into the ocean. Grizzly also sources co-products from human-grade fisheries, thereby using all parts of the fish not designated for human consumption and minimizing waste.

Palmieri said Cloud Star believes sustainability is an ongoing initiative that must be practiced on all fronts, from supplier sourcing to ultimate disposal of the product container. “We believe sustainability is a critical component of any successful business strategy and are proud to say that we are taking steps toward a more sustainable future for our customers and the pets they love.”
